Late Arrival Fall 2025

We left the city later in the day and arrived at the lake for dusk. Boating to the island can be challenging on days when the winds are high and the water is rough, but that evening was fine and the views were lovely.

Making Fire Starters

We like to make a few fire starters most years. We save old candle stubs in a container, and save dry moss, wood shavings and a few pine cones and we have all we need to make lighting fall fires easier.

Put your burnable material into and egg carton. melt a little wax over a double burner, pour on your material and allow it to cool and solidify. After that you can cut apart the egg carton sections or alternately you could use an old muffin tin with cupcake liners to hold your material and add wax over that.

I have an electric stove in the city, but our lake stove is a propane one. I really like cooking with gas combined with a cast iron frying pan and you can’t go wrong,

How Autumn Begins

The changes start by mid August. I love watching the colours and flowers change with the seasons.

It starts with little details, the occasional new berry or bright coloured leaves. The weather gets hot and the forest and gardens struggle in the heat and sometimes lack of water. By August the days and nights are cooler and we can feel the days growing a bit shorter. The container plants near our building reach their full glory and we love seeing them too.
